NOTE: You don’t need to shutdown your instance, when you are changing protection mode from MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE TO MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY.But you need to if you are going to MAXIMUM PROTECTION.
SQL> alter system switch logfile;
